Job Requirements For Our Cable Televison Installer - Technician Position
We are seeking a full-time skilled and reliable Cable Television Installer-Technician to join our team. As a Cable Television Installer-Tech typically includes a combination of technical skills, physcial abilities, soft skills, and customer service aptitude. Here’s a detailed overview of the key requirements for this role.
Educational Requirements:
- Technical Training (e.g., in electronics, telecommunications, or a related field) preferred but not required.
- Certifications in areas like electronics, cable installation, or network troubleshooting can be a plus.
Skills and Knowledge
- Cable Installation Knowledge: Understanding of cable TV systems, digital video systems, broadband internet, networking, and signal transmission. Knowledgeable of how to install, set up, and configure cable TV systems, including wiring, outlets, set-top boxes, and satellite dishes.
- Signal Troubleshooting: Ability to identify and resolve issues with cable signals, picture quality, connectivity, or other service problems.
- Use of Tools and Equipment: Proficiency in using tools such a cable cutters, crimpers, signal meters, voltmeters, power drills, and other installation equipment.
- Electrical and Electronics Knowledge: A general understanding of how electrical systems and cable TV equipment work.
- Networking Basics: Basic knowledge of home network setups, such as connecting modems, routers, and Wi-Fi networks, especially if offering internet service alongside TV.
- Understanding of Cable TV and Internet Systems: Knowledge of how TV signals are transmitted, including both analog and digital systems, and experience with cable modem installations.
Soft Skills
- Customer Service Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with customers, explaining technical issues, and offering solutions.
- Attention to Detail: Being detail-oriented is crucial when handling equipment, diagnosing problems, and ensuring that installations are completed correctly.
- Time Management: Ability to manage multiple service calls or tasks throughout the day.
- Problem-Solving Ability: Diagnosing problems with a system and implementing solutions efficiently.
Physical Requirements
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle small tools and work with cables and equipment.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting heavy equipment (e.g., cable spools, set-top boxes), climbing ladders, working in all weather climates or working in tight spaces. Capable of working long hours, including standing and crouching.
- Ability to Work at Heights: Comfort working at elevated heights, such as installing satellite dishes on roofs, in high places or dealing with overhead wiring.
- Driving: A valid driver’s license is required with a good driving record.
Experience
- Previous Experience in a related field (e.g., telecommunications, customer service, or electrical work) is preferred.
- Customer Service Experience is helpful, as installers frequently interact directly with clients and must manage customer relationships.
Other Requirements
- Background Check: Successful completion of background check may be required before stating employment.
- Flexibility and Availability: Willing to work flexible hours, including some Saturdays if necessary, on-call shifts, as required by customer demand.
